REFLECTION

Experience

This Typography module has been really interesting and fun. I’ve learned a lot about how typography works and why it’s such an important part of design. I’ve also gotten better at using software like Adobe Illustrator and FontLab, which has made it easier for me to create and manipulate fonts. When I started this class, I didn’t know much about typography, but now I can see how much goes into designing a font. I never realized how small details, like the spacing between letters and the shapes of the letters, make such a big difference in how something looks and feels. Typography has definitely changed the way I look at text, and it’s become one of my favorite subjects this semester.

I really appreciate Mr. Max for being so helpful throughout this project. He gave me a lot of useful advice and tips that helped me improve my designs. His feedback made things clearer and helped me get through some of the more tricky parts of the project. I also want to thank my classmates for their support and ideas, which made the process more fun and easier to handle.

Observations

I’ve noticed that typography is everywhere and plays a big role in making designs work. From books to posters to websites, the way text is arranged and designed can completely change how we experience the message. I realized how much effort goes into getting things like kerning, leading, and alignment just right. It's these little details that make the design readable and professional. Working on fonts and learning about typography taught me how much planning and precision are needed for a design to look balanced and visually appealing.

Findings

Typography is way more than just choosing a font. It involves so many little details like spacing, alignment, and stroke weight that can really affect how a design looks and feels. I also found that creating a font is not as hard as I initially thought. It just takes time and practice. Even though I found some parts, like sketching the letters and keeping the shapes consistent, a bit challenging, the process itself was really interesting. I now see how important it is to think carefully about the design and make sure every detail fits together. I also learned that FontLab is a powerful tool for creating fonts, though it took me some time to get used to it. Moving forward, I plan to practice sketching more and experimenting with different ideas before jumping into the digital part. This will help me refine my designs and make them stronger in the future.
