Experiences

Working on all three tasks in this module gave me a broader understanding of typography beyond just letterforms. I was able to explore different aspects of type, from analyzing typographic systems to creating my own typeface and applying it in a real-world context. Each task brought a different challenge, but it also allowed me to grow in creativity and problem-solving. Although there were moments where I struggled with software functions or visual consistency, these challenges helped sharpen my eye for detail and improve my workflow. Overall, this module became a valuable experience in helping me apply both existing and new skills more purposefully.

Observations

Throughout the process, I noticed that typography requires more than just visual balance. It also demands consistency, intention, and a connection to the message or concept behind the design. Observing how my own type designs evolved from sketches to a fully usable font helped me reflect on how small decisions in stroke width, spacing, and angles can influence the overall mood and readability. I also found that applying the typeface in a mockup helped me better understand its practical potential, especially in digital interfaces.

Findings

Through this module, I became more confident in using a range of design software including Illustrator, FontLab, and Photoshop. I also learned how to transfer hand-drawn concepts into digital forms and organize glyphs into a functional type system. One of the key takeaways was understanding the relationship between experimentation and refinement. Task 3 especially allowed me to push my creativity while applying what I learned from earlier tasks. The exposure to different type systems and techniques has helped me build a stronger foundation in typography, which I believe will support my future design projects.
